Rules of conduct in the dojo
Fundamental ethical principles
- When entering the dojo and stepping onto the tatami, bow toward the portrait of the founder of aikido.
- Meditation at the beginning and end of training serves for preparation and integration.
- When entering, use the greeting "onegaishimas(u)" and at the end "domo arigatou gozaimash(i)ta".
- At the beginning and end of practice with a partner, bow to each other.
Practical rules
- Late arrival requires waiting at the edge of the tatami and an invitation from the instructor.
- Early departure or interruption must be reported to the instructor.
- Proper sitting: seiza or cross-legged with a straight back.
- It is not allowed to sit with your back to the kamiza or with legs stretched out.
- Senior students should help beginners.
On the tatami
- Do not wear jewelry (rings, earrings, necklaces) for safety reasons.
- Food, drinks, or mobile phones are not allowed on the tatami.
- Maintain cleanliness – clean gi, trimmed nails.
